Ingredients

  • 1 (No. 2 1/2) can fruit cocktail (reserve 1 1/4 cups liquid)
  • 1 egg
  • 1 pkg. white cake mix
  • 2 Tbsp. shortening
  • 1/4 c. brown sugar

Method

  • Blend cake mix, fruit liquid and egg.
  • Preheat an 11-inch iron skillet, then melt shortening in it.
  • Pour cake batter into the skillet.
  • Partly cover and cook over low heat for about 15 to 20 minutes until top of cake is dry to the touch.
  • Uncover; add drained fruit.
  • Sprinkle with brown sugar.
  • Keep warm until serving time.
  • Serves 8 to 10.
