Ingredients
- 1 stick butter
- 5 large onions, sliced
- 2 Tbsp. plain flour
- 8 c. chicken broth
- 1 c. shredded Swiss cheese
- 12 (1/2-inch) slices Italian bread
- 12 slices Swiss cheese
Method
- Melt butter; add onions and cook 30 minutes or until golden on medium.
- Stir in flour.
- Gradually stir in chicken broth.
- Bring to boil; reduce heat and simmer for 5 minutes.
- Preheat broiler. Pour soup in 6 ovenproof bowls.
- Place on baking sheet.
- Add 2 tablespoons shredded cheese, 2 slices bread and 2 slices cheese to each bowl.
- Place under broiler for 3 minutes or until cheese is golden and bubbly.
