Ingredients

  • 1/4 lb. butter
  • 4 egg yolks
  • 1 whole egg
  • 2 tsp. sugar
  • 2 c. flour
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 oz. whiskey (optional)
  • 1 tsp. vanilla

Method

  • Cut butter with egg and egg yolks into small pieces.
  • Add sugar, salt, whiskey and vanilla.
  • Slowly add flour.
  • Chill dough for 1 hour or more.
  • Roll dough out on lightly floured surface to paper thinness.
  • Cut into 2-inch x 3-inch long strips.
  • Make slit in center and pull one end of the dough through to form a loose knot.
  • Fry in deep oil until light golden color.
  • Drain and sprinkle with powdered sugar.
