Ingredients

  • 1/2 c. chopped onions
  • 1/2 c. chopped celery
  • 1/4 c. chopped green pepper
  • 2 Tbsp. butter
  • 1 (12 oz.) bottle chili sauce
  • 1 1/2 lb. lean ground beef
  • 1 c. soft bread crumbs
  • 1 egg, slightly beaten
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/8 tsp. pepper

Method

  • Saute onion, celery and green pepper in butter until tender. Stir in chili sauce.
  • Combine 1/2 cup this mixture with ground beef, bread crumbs, egg, salt and pepper.
  • Form into a loaf in shallow baking pan.
  • Bake in 350° oven for 1 hour.
  • Let stand 5 minutes before slicing.
  • Serve remaining sauce, cold or hot, over meat loaf.
  • Yields 6 servings.
