Ingredients

  • 5-1/2 cups Flour
  • 2 packages (7g Package) Yeast
  • 1 Tablespoon Sugar
  • 2 teaspoons Salt
  • 1/4 teaspoons Baking Soda
  • 1/4 cups Water
  • 2 cups Milk
  • Cornmeal

Method

  • Combine 3 cups of flour, yeast, sugar, salt and soda.
  • Heat liquid (water and milk) to 120-130 degrees. Add to the dry mixture. Mix well.
  • Stir in enough additional flour to make a stiff, tacky batter (not a dough). Spoon into two (2) 8 1/2 x 4 1/2 loaf pans that have been greased and coated with cornmeal. Sprinkle the top of the bread with cornmeal. Cover and let rise in a warm place for about 45 minutes.
  • Bake at 400 degrees for 25 minutes. Remove from pans immediately. Cool, slice, and toast.
