Ingredients

  • 2 pkg. yeast
  • 6 c. unsifted flour
  • 1 Tbsp. sugar
  • 2 tsp. salt
  • 2 c. skim milk
  • 1/4 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/2 c. water
  • yellow cornmeal

Method

  • Grease two 8 1/2 x 4 1/2-inch loaf pans and sprinkle with cornmeal.
  • Set aside.
  • Preheat oven to 400°.
  • Combine 3 cups flour, yeast, salt, sugar and baking soda in a large bowl.
  • Heat liquids until very warm.
  • Add to dry mixture.
  • Beat well.
  • Stir in remaining flour to make a stiff batter.
  • Spoon into pans. Sprinkle tops with cornmeal.
  • Cover and let rise in a warm place for 45 minutes.
  • Bake for 25 minutes.
  • Remove from pans immediately and cool on racks.
