Ingredients

  • 6 teaspoons Butter
  • 6 teaspoons Flour
  • 4 cups Warm Milk
  • Nutmeg, To Taste
  • 1 teaspoon Salt, Or To Taste
  • 1/2 teaspoons Pepper Or To Taste
  • 6 whole Eggs, Cooked How You Like Them
  • 6 slices Thick Cut Bread
  • 6 slices Thin Cut Ham
  • 1 cup Gruyere Cheese, Grated

Method

  • Preheat oven to 425 degrees.
  • For the sauce:
  • Melt butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Add flour and mix vigorously with a whisk; cook for 1 minute while still whisking. Gradually add milk, mixing with the whisk to prevent lumps. Bring to a slow boil and cook for about 3 minutes. Add nutmeg, salt and pepper.
  • For the sandwich:
  • Cook eggs, keep warm. On a cookie sheet, place bread slices. Pour bechamel sauce over each slice. Then layer a slice of ham and some Gruyere cheese over each slice. Bake for 5 minutes or until cheese is melted. Remove and place sandwiches on individual plates and top with eggs. Serve warm.
