Ingredients

  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 2 tablespoons shortening
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground allspice
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 (10.75 ounce) can condensed tomato soup
  • 1 cup raisins
  • 1 1/2 cups boiling water
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder

Method

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Lightly grease an 8 inch square pan.
  • In a large bowl, combine sugar, shortening, spices, salt, soup, and raisins. Stir in boiling water. Cool.
  • Sift the flour, baking powder, and baking soda together. Add to the cooled raisin mixture, and stir until just combined. Pour batter into prepared pan.
  • Bake for 20 to 25 minutes. Serve warm.
