Ingredients
- 2 cups flour, sifted
- 2 cups sugar, granulated
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1 1/2 tsp salt
- 4 Tbsp cocoa
- 1 cup water
- 1 stick unsalted butter
- 2 eggs
- 1/2 cup buttermilk
- 1 tsp vanilla
Method
- bring water and butter to a boil in small saucepan and remove from heat.
- Sift together flour, sugar, salt, baking powder, and cocoa in large bowl.
- Pour in water/butter mixture and stir slightly. Mix together 2 eggs, buttermilk and vanilla, add to bowl and stir until smooth.
- Pour mixture into greased and floured 9-inch springform pan (or 2 8-inch rounds for layer cake)and bake at 350 for 30 - 40 minutes.
- Allow to cool and turn onto cake plate. Dust with powdered confectioner's sugar or choice of topping, or serve plain.
