Ingredients
- 3/4 lb. dates, cut into pieces
- 1/2 c. sugar
- 1/2 c. water
- 2 Tbsp. lemon juice
- 1/8 tsp. salt
- chopped pecans (optional)
- 1 1/2 c. sifted flour
- 1/2 tsp. baking soda
- 1/8 tsp. salt
- 1 c. brown sugar, packed
- 1 1/2 c. rolled oats
- 3/4 c. butter or margarine, melted
Method
- Mix and sift flour, baking soda and salt; add brown sugar and rolled oats and mix well.
- Cut butter into flour mixture until well blended.
- Press one half of butter mixture on sides and bottom of greased 9-inch square pan.
- Cover with date mixture and sprinkle remaining butter mixture on top.
- Bake in preheated 350° oven about 30 minutes.
- When cool, cut into squares and remove from pan.
- Yields 25 squares.
