Ingredients
- 10 medium cucumbers, washed (good and free of spots)
- 8 c. sugar
- 5 Tbsp. salt
- 4 c. vinegar
- 2 Tbsp. pickling spices (optional)
Method
- Put cucumbers in stone jar.
- Cover with boiling water and let stand until next morning.
- Drain well.
- Cover with boiling water. Repeat for 3 days.
- On the fifth day, drain and dry well the cucumbers.
- Slice in 1/2-inch pieces.
- Combine sugar, salt and vinegar.
- Add spices if desired (I don't use spices).
- Bring to a boil and pour over cucumbers.
- Let stand 2 days.
- On third day, bring to a boil. Can and seal.
- Boiling water bath is recommended. These are very good and brickel. If you have any left over, they do not turn soft.
