Ingredients

  • 1 cup oats
  • 1 1/2 cups all purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 5 tablespoons butter
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 6 pears - peeled and sliced
  • 1/2 lemon
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup flour
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup flour
  • 5 tablespoons butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

Method

  • Preheat Oven 350 degrees:
  • Combine the oats, flour, salt and sugar in a bowl and mix; add the butter and work with your fingers into crumbs. Slowly, add the milk to form dough. Adjust the milk to the dough; you may not need all of the milk. Do not make your dough too sticky.
  • Lightly dust a clean surface with flour to roll out the dough to a 1/4 inch thickness. Fit into a 9 inch pie shell and bake for 10 - 12 minutes.
  • Remove from the oven to cool.
  • For the Filling:
  • Combine all of the above in a bowl and toss. Place in cooled pie crust shell.
  • For the Topping:
  • Combine all of the above in a bowl and work with your fingers to form crumbs.
  • Place the crumbs generously over the pears. Use the left over dough to form hearts or your choice of shapes over the pie.
  • Bake 40 -45 minutes.
