Ingredients

  • 2 c. flour, sifted
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 1/2 c. butter, softened
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 c. buttermilk
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 3/4 tsp. cloves
  • 1 c. raisins
  • 1 c. nuts, chopped

Method

  • Preheat oven to 350°.
  • Cream butter and sugar.
  • Blend in flour, mixing well.
  • Reserve 1/2 cup of this crumb mixture to sprinkle over cake before baking.
  • Add the egg, salt, buttermilk, baking soda, spices, raisins and nuts to the remaining crumb mixture.
  • Pour into a 9 x 13-inch greased pan.
  • Bake at 350° for 25 to 30 minutes or until done.
