Ingredients

  • 3 Tbsp. butter or margarine, divided
  • 1/2 c. cornflakes, crumbled
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. instant minced onion
  • 1 tsp. sugar
  • 4 to 6 c. French-style green beans, cooked and drained
  • 1 c. shredded sharp Cheddar or Swiss cheese
  • 1 Tbsp. all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 tsp. pepper
  • 1 c. sour cream

Method

  • In a small saucepan melt 1 tablespoon butter.
  • Stir in cornflakes and set aside.
  • Melt remaining butter in a large saucepan.
  • Stir in flour, salt, pepper, onion and sugar.
  • Heat and stir until bubbly.
  • Reduce heat and add sour cream.
  • Stir until smooth.
  • Cook and stir over low heat for 2 minutes (do not boil). Fold in the beans; spread into a greased 1 1/2-quart baking dish. Sprinkle cheese evenly over top.
  • Sprinkle with cornflakes mixture.
  • Bake, uncovered, at 400° for 20 minutes or until heated through.
