Ingredients

  • 3/4 c. sifted all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 c. granulated sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 1/2 c. Quaker oats
  • milk chocolate bars
  • 1/2 tsp. soda
  • 1/2 c. brown sugar
  • 1/2 c. soft shortening
  • 1/2 tsp. vanilla
  • 1/4 c. chopped nuts

Method

  • Sift together flour, soda and salt.
  • Add sugars, shortening, egg and vanilla.
  • Beat until smooth (about 2 minutes).
  • Stir in oats and nuts.
  • Shape dough into a roll; wrap and chill thoroughly.
  • Slice and put on ungreased cookie sheets.
  • Bake at 375° for 10 to 12 minutes.
  • Remove from oven and immediately place small square of milk chocolate bar on each.
  • Remove from sheets and press pecan or walnut half into chocolate square.
