Ingredients

  • 1 cup chocolate chips
  • 2 teaspoons cooking oil
  • 12 cup shortening, softened
  • 6 tablespoons sugar
  • 6 tablespoons brown sugar, packed
  • 12 teaspoon vanilla
  • 14 teaspoon water
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup flour, and additional
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 12 teaspoon salt
  • 12 teaspoon baking soda
  • 12 cup nuts, coarsely chopped

Method

  • Over double boiler, combine chocolate bits and cooking oil.
  • Stir until chocolate melts and mixture is blended; set aside.
  • Combine shortening, sugars, vanilla and water and beat until creamy.
  • Add egg and blend.
  • Sift together the flour, salt and baking powder.
  • Add to shortening/sugar mixture until blended.
  • Stir in nuts.
  • Spread mixture in a greased 13x9x2" pan.
  • Spoon the melted chocolate over the top; run a knife through the batter to marbleize.
  • Bake in a 375 degree oven for 14 to 16 minutes.
  • Cool; cut into 2" squares.
