Ingredients

  • 1/2 c. shortening
  • 1 2/3 c. sugar
  • 2 tsp. vanilla
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 (1 oz.) squares unsweetened chocolate
  • 2 c. sifted flour
  • 2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/3 c. milk
  • 1/2 c. walnuts or pecans

Method

  • Cream shortening, sugar and vanilla together; beat in eggs. Add chocolate and beat.
  • Sift flour, baking powder and salt together and add alternately with milk.
  • Stir in nuts.
  • Chill for several hours.
  • Form into 1-inch balls.
  • Roll in powdered sugar. Place 2 to 3 inches apart on greased cookie sheet.
  • Bake at 350° about 13 to 14 minutes.
