Ingredients
- 12 slices thin sliced bread
- butter as needed
- 1 lb. fresh pork sausage of bacon
- 1/2 lb. grated sharp Cheddar cheese (I use a little more)
- 4 eggs
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- 3 c. milk
Method
- Trim crusts and lightly butter bread.
- Brown sausage.
- Place 6 slices of bread in a 9 x 13-inch greased (spray with Pam) baking dish, buttered side up.
- Spread 1/2 crumbled, drained sausage or bacon and cheese over bread.
- Place 6 slices of bread on top, followed by rest of sausage and cheese.
- Lightly beat together eggs, milk and salt.
- Pour over casserole.
- Press down with spatula until milk comes through.
- Cover and refrigerate overnight.
- Bake for 40 minutes in preheated 350° oven.
- Can add mushrooms.
