Ingredients

  • 1 box chocolate cake mix
  • 1 stick margarine, softened
  • 1/2 c. evaporated milk
  • 1 c. finely chopped nuts (optional)
  • 1 (14 oz.) bag caramels (35 caramels)
  • 1/3 c. evaporated milk
  • 6 oz. chocolate chips
  • 3/4 c. chopped nuts (optional)

Method

  • Put cake mix into a bowl and cut in margarine.
  • Add 1/2 cup evaporated milk and 1 cup chopped nuts.
  • Spread half the mixture into a greased 13 x 9-inch pan.
  • Bake at 350° for 6 to 10 minutes. Melt caramels and 1/2 cup evaporated milk over low heat, stirring constantly.
  • Cover baked layer with chocolate chips and 3/4 cup chopped nuts.
  • Spread caramel mixture over chips and nuts.
  • Cover with remaining batter.
  • Bake at 350° for 20 minutes.
  • Cool.
  • Cut.
