Ingredients

  • 1 c. milk
  • 1 yeast cake
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 4 c. all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 c. shortening
  • 1/2 c. sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • melted butter

Method

  • Scald milk and remove from heat.
  • Add shortening to milk. Combine yeast and sugar in bowl.
  • Add yeast mixture to lukewarm milk mixture.
  • Add salt and slightly beaten eggs to mixture.
  • Add flour and mix well.
  • Let rise until double in size, about 2 to 3 hours.
  • Place half of dough on floured board; roll into circle 1/2-inch thick.
  • Brush with melted butter.
  • Cut into 16 pie shaped wedges.
  • Roll each wedge beginning at round edge and place on greased pan with pointed end underneath.
  • Let rise again until double in size.
  • Bake about 15 minutes in 400° oven.
  • Makes 32 rolls.
