Ingredients

  • 1/2 c. margarine or butter
  • 2 oz. (2 sq.) unsweetened chocolate or 2 envelopes premelted unsweetened baking chocolate flavor
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 2/3 c. all-purpose or unbleached flour
  • 1/2 c. chopped nuts (if desired)
  • 1/2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp. salt

Method

  • Heat oven to 350°.
  • Grease (not oil) and lightly flour bottom of an 8 or 9-inch square pan.
  • In a large saucepan, melt margarine and chocolate over low heat, stirring constantly.
  • Remove from heat; cool slightly.
  • Blend in sugar.
  • Beat in eggs, one at a time.
  • Stir in remaining ingredients.
  • Spread in prepared pan. Bake at 350° for 25 to 30 minutes or until set in center.
  • Cool; cut into bars.
  • Makes 24 bars.
