Ingredients

  • 1 c. shortening
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 3 sq. bitter chocolate
  • 1 c. flour, sifted
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 c. brown sugar
  • dash of salt
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 c. chopped pecans

Method

  • Melt chocolate and shortening.
  • Cool slightly.
  • Beat the eggs until light and creamy.
  • Add the sugar and mix thoroughly.
  • Add vanilla.
  • Mix flour, baking powder and salt.
  • Add to eggs and sugar.
  • Stir in the chocolate and pecans.
  • Pour into a 9 x 13-inch baking pan (greased and floured).
  • Bake at 350° for about 30 minutes.
  • Do not overbake.
  • While still warm, cut into bars.
