Ingredients

  • 5 c. flour
  • 5 tsp. soda
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 c. shortening
  • 3 c. sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 qt. buttermilk
  • 2 c. 100% Bran (Nabisco)
  • 2 c. boiling water
  • 4 c. All-Bran (Kellogg's)

Method

  • Mix together the first 3 ingredients, then add shortening, sugar, eggs and buttermilk.
  • In another bowl, mix the 100% Bran and boiling water.
  • Fold in the All-Bran, then add to the mixture.
  • Bake 15 to 20 minutes at 400°.
  • Can add dry fruit, nuts, etc.
  • Mix at least one day ahead of use.
  • Batter keeps 4 weeks in sealed container.
