Ingredients

  • 1 lb. round steak
  • flour
  • 1 Tbsp. shortening
  • 1/2 bay leaf
  • 1/2 tsp. diced onion
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 4 medium carrots, cut in 1/2-inch pieces
  • 2 c. hot water
  • 2 bouillon cubes
  • 4 medium potatoes, cut in half

Method

  • Cut steak in serving pieces or in thin strips.
  • Dissolve bouillon cubes in the hot water.
  • Dredge meat in flour.
  • Brown on both sides in shortening.
  • Add bay leaf, onion, salt and pepper, water with the bouillon cubes, carrots and potatoes.
  • Cover and cook over low heat 50 minutes or until meat and vegetables are tender.
  • (I like to add zucchini the last 15 minutes of cooking time.)
