Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar, firmly packed
  • 2 eggs, unbeated
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 cup sifted all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon soda
  • 1 cup shredded coconut, toasted
  • 1 cup rolled oats, toasted

Method

  • Combine shortening, sugars, eggs, salt, and vanilla and beat thoroughly. Sift flour and soda together; add to first mixture with coconut and oats and mix well. Drop level tablespoons of dough on greased baking sheets. Bake in moderate oven (350°F) 10-15 minutes.
