Ingredients

  • 1 stick butter (1/2 c.)
  • 1 egg
  • 1 c. unsifted flour
  • 1 c. semi-sweet chocolate pieces
  • 1 c. light brown sugar
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1/2 tsp. salt

Method

  • In a small saucepan, melt butter over low heat; remove from heat.
  • Add sugar and stir until smooth and dissolved.
  • Transfer mixture to larger mixer bowl and beat 1 minute.
  • Add egg and vanilla.
  • Continue beating until light and fluffy, scraping sides of bowl occasionally.
  • Stir in flour and salt, just until blended. Fold in chocolate pieces.
  • Spread in an 8-inch greased and floured square pan.
  • Bake 20 to 25 minutes at 350° or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.
  • Do not overbake. Cool completely on wire rack, then cut in squares.
  • Makes 16 squares.
