Ingredients

  • 3 1/4 - 3 1/2 c. sifted all purpose flour
  • 1 pkg. active dry yeast
  • 1 c. lowfat milk
  • 1/4 c. shortening
  • 2 tbsp. sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 egg

Method

  • Place 1 1/2 c. of the flour and yeast in blender container.
  • Switch on and off to combine.
  • Heat lowfat milk, shortening, sugar and salt just till hot, stirring till shortening is melted.
  • Add in to dry ingredients in blender.
  • Add in egg, blending at low speed till combined.
  • Blend at high speed till smooth, only 4 to 5 seconds.
  • Pour into a mixing bowl.
  • Stir in sufficient flour to make a moderately stiff dough.
  • Cover and let rise till double, about 45 min.
  • Punch down.
  • Turn onto lightly floured surface; let rest 10 min.
  • Shape loaf.
  • Put in a greased 9"x5"x3" loaf pan.
  • Let rise till double.
  • Bake at 375 degrees for 40 to 45 min.
  • Yield: 1 loaf.
