- 1/2 c butter
- 1/2 c shortening
- 2 c sugar
- 5 egg yolks
- 2 c sifted plain flour
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- 1 c butter milk
- 1 tsp walnut flavoring
- 1 7 oz can flaked coconut
- 1 c black walnuts
- 5 beaten egg whites
Method
- Cream sugar, butter, shortening, and egg yolks.
- Beat until smooth. combine dry ingredients.
- Add to creamed mixture.
- Add buttermilk and flavoring mix well.
- Add coconut and nuts. mix well. Gently fold in beaten egg whites with a wooden spoon.
- Grease and flour three 9 inch cake pans.
- Pour batter in.
- Bake at 325° for 20 to 25 minutes.
- Let Cool.
