Ingredients

  • 1 gallon white basmati rice
  • 1 gallon water
  • 1 12 quarts water
  • 2 tablespoons salt
  • 1 cup oil or 1 cup butter

Method

  • Heat the oil/butter in a large, thick bottomed pot.
  • Add the rice.
  • Cook, stirring constantly for about 3 minutes.
  • Sauteing the rice brings out the nutty aromatic flavors.
  • Add the water and salt.
  • Swirl and bring to a boil.
  • Reduce heat to low.
  • Cover tightly and cook until the water is absorbed.
  • Remove from heat.
  • Let the rice stand, still covered, to finish cooking.
  • Transfer to a 4" pan and serve.
