Ingredients

  • 2 (8 oz.) cans tomato sauce
  • 1 tsp. prepared mustard
  • 1/2 tsp. hot pepper sauce
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1/2 c. water
  • 1 lb. ground beef
  • 1 c. peeled and sliced onions
  • 2 Tbsp. salad oil

Method

  • Cook onions in salad oil or melted fat in large skillet over medium
  • heat
  • until soft.
  • Add ground beef and 1 teaspoon of salt. Cook and stir until beef is lightly browned or use 2 1/2
  • cups chopped
  • leftover, cooked beef,
  • pork, chicken or turkey instead of
  • ground beef and do not brown).
  • Add tomato sauce, prepared mustard, pepper sauce, vinegar and water.
  • Let simmer, uncovered, for
  • 10 to 15 minutes.
  • Serve large spoonfuls on toasted halves of hamburger buns.
