Ingredients

  • 1 (3 to 3 1/2 lb.) chicken
  • 1 medium onion
  • 2 Tbsp. fat
  • 2 Tbsp. vinegar
  • 2 to 3 Tbsp. brown sugar
  • 1/4 c. lemon juice
  • 1 c. catsup
  • 3 Tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 Tbsp. prepared mustard
  • 1 c. water
  • 1/2 c. chopped celery (may substitute celery salt)
  • pinch of salt
  • pinch of red pepper

Method

  • Cut chicken in serving pieces; brown in hot fat.
  • Brown onions in fat.
  • Add remaining ingredients.
  • Simmer 30 minutes.
  • Pour over chicken.
  • Bake in 300° to 325° oven for 1 hour.
  • Sauce may be used for other meats also.
  • Serves 6.
