Ingredients
- 3 c. all purpose flour
- 6 t. baking powder, rounded
- 1 t. salt
- 8 T. solid shortening (Cisco)
- 12 oz. evaporated milk (or 1 1/2 c. milk)
Method
- Preheat oven to 450 degrees.
- Mix flour, baking powder & salt in a medium bowl. Stir all dry ingredients until evenly mixed. Cut shortening into flour until there are no lumps of shortening left. Make a well in the center of the flour mixture and pour in milk. Use a wooden spoon to mix from the outside in until all is completedly mixed & there are no dry ingredients on the sides or bottom of the bowl. Mixture will be sticky.
- Flour a clean surface. Scrape biscuit mixture onto floured surface. Lightly dust the top of the biscuit mixture & lightly kneed mixture until dough is smooth and no longer sticky.
- Pat down the dough until it's about 1 inch thick. Cut with biscuit cutter or use the open side of glass or cup. Reshape left over dough & cut again as needed. Arrange biscuits on pan or cookie sheet about an inch apart from each other.
- Bake at 450 degrees for 15 minutes or until golden brown.
- Makes between 10 - 15 biscuits depending how large or small you cut the biscuits.
