Ingredients
- 6 or 8 red Delicious apples
- 3 c. sugar
- 1 1/2 c. water
- 1 stick oleo
- puff pastry
- 1 c. glaze (apricot, strawberry, peach or blackberry)
Method
- Peel, core and halve the apples.
- Place apples in a bowl and toss with lemon juice.
- Pour sugar into heavy large cast iron skillet.
- Add water to cover.
- Cook sugar and water until it turns blonde in color.
- Add oleo.
- Sugar will crystallize.
- Remove from heat; add apples, standing on end around skillet.
- Bake 30 minutes at 400°.
- Remove from heat; place sheet of puff pastry over top. Trim.
- Bake 30 minutes more.
- Remove and cool 15 minutes.
- Place plate over pie and invert onto plate.
- Glaze with flavor of choice.
