Ingredients

  • 1/4 c. Unsalted butter, cut up
  • 1 c. Flour
  • 1/3 c. Brown sugar, packed
  • 1 tsp Cinnamon, grnd
  • 1/4 tsp Ginger, grnd
  • 1/4 tsp Cloves, grnd
  • 1/4 tsp Salt
  • 1/3 c. Molasses
  • 1/3 c. Water, boiling
  • 1/2 tsp Baking soda
  • 2 lrg Red Delicious apples, peeled cored/coarsely minced
  • 1 x 9" deepdish pie shell unbake

Method

  • To prepare crumb mix: Process butter, flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, ginger, cloves, and salt in a food processor till mix resembles coarse meal.

  • To make filling: Dissolve molasses in boiling water in a large bowl.
  • Stir in baking soda.
  • Add in about 2/3 of the crumb mix and all of the minced apples, and mix till crumbs are moistened.
  • Spoon into pie shell.
  • Sprinkle remaining crumb mix on top.

  • Bake in a preheated 375-degree oven till filling is set, about 40 min.
