Ingredients

  • 1 c. sugar
  • 1/2 c. shortening
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 2 c. self-rising flour
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp. nutmeg
  • 2 c. chopped apple, peeled
  • 1/2 c. chopped nuts
  • 1 Tbsp. sugar
  • 1/4 tsp. cinnamon

Method

  • Heat oven to 350°.
  • Grease and flour loaf pan, 9 x 5 x 3-inches.
  • Mix 1 cup sugar, shortening, eggs and vanilla.
  • Stir in flour until smooth.
  • Stir in apples and nuts.
  • Spread in pan.
  • Mix 1 tablespoon sugar and cinnamon.
  • Sprinkle over batter.
  • Bake until toothpick in center comes out clean, 50 or 60 minutes. Remove from pan immediately.
  • Cool completely before slicing. Store tightly covered.
