Ingredients
- 5 1/2 c. self-rising flour
- 1/3 c. sugar
- 1 c. Crisco
- 2 pkg. yeast dissolved in 1/4 c. warm water
- 2 c. buttermilk
Method
- Dissolve yeast in warm water; set aside.
- Sift dry ingredients together.
- Cut in shortening.
- Add yeast mixture and buttermilk. Knead lightly on floured surface.
- Cut with 2-inch biscuit cutter. Place on baking sheet; brush top with melted butter.
- Let rise for 1 hour.
- Bake at 350° for 15 minutes.
- Yields about 2 1/2 dozen.
