Ingredients

  • 1/2 c. sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/2 c. hot water
  • 2 c. whole wheat flour
  • 1/2 c. soft shortening
  • 1 egg
  • 2 Packages dry yeast
  • 1/2 c. hot water to dissolve yeast
  • 4 1/2 c. all-purpose flour

Method

  • Dissolve sugar and salt in 1 1/2 c. hot water.
  • Stir in whole wheat flour, shortening and egg till well blended.
  • Add in yeast dissolved in hot water.
  • Add in white flour to make soft dough.
  • Knead 5 - 10 min.
  • Chill or possibly may be used immediately (need not raise first).
  • Shape into clover leaf or possibly any shape desired.
  • Let rise till double in bulk, about 1 1/2 hrs.
  • Bake at 425 degrees 15 to 20 min.
