Ingredients
- 2 pkg. dry yeast
- 1/2 c. warm water
- 1/3 c. sugar
- 1/3 c. shortening, melted
- 1 Tbsp. salt
- 2 1/2 c. milk, scalded and cooled
- 5 to 5 1/2 c. white flour
- 3 Tbsp. dark molasses
- 2 1/4 c. whole wheat flour
Method
- Dissolve yeast in warm water.
- Add sugar, shortening, salt and milk.
- Mix and then add 3 cups white flour. Beat.
- Divide in half. Stir in enough white flour to make a stiff dough.
- To the other, add molasses and enough wheat flour to make a dough. Knead both doughs well and let rise until doubled. Roll out both doughs to a 12 x 8-inch rectangle.
- Place dark atop light. Cut in half and roll up, placing in a greased loaf pan.
- Let rise until doubled, then bake at 375° for 30 to 35 minutes.
