Ingredients

  • 1/4 c. shortening
  • 1 c. hot water
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 cake or pkg. of yeast
  • 2 Tbsp. warm water
  • 1 egg, well beaten
  • 3 to 3 1/2 c. flour

Method

  • Mix shortening, hot water, sugar and salt.
  • Cool.
  • Dissolve yeast in warm water, add beaten egg, yeast and flour (enough to make soft dough).
  • Let rise 2 1/2 hours.
  • Roll to 1/4-inch thickness and spread with melted butter.
  • Cut with small cutter and fold in half and pinch together.
  • Place pinched edges up on greased pan and let rise for 1 hour.
  • Bake in moderate oven for 20 minutes at 350°.
