Ingredients

  • 1 teaspoon superfine sugar
  • 2 teaspoons water
  • 2 ounces bourbon (see note)
  • Fresh mint

Method

  • In a rocks or old fashioned glass, dissolve the sugar in the water. Lightly press 6 to 8 mint leaves in the syrup, then add the spirits and stir. Fill glass with cracked ice and insert a mint sprig as garnish; if you feel fancy, you can garnish with fresh berries and an orange wheel as well.
  • Alternatively, dissolve sugar in water in a cocktail shaker; add mint and spirits. Shake well with ice and strain through a fine strainer into a rocks or old fashioned glass filled with fresh ice. Garnish as above.
