Ingredients
- 1 pkg. dry yeast
- 1/4 c. warm water
- 2 c. milk, scalded
- 2 Tbsp. sugar
- 2 tsp. salt
- 1 Tbsp. shortening
- 5 to 6 c. sifted flour
Method
- Soften yeast in warm water.
- Combine hot milk, sugar, salt and shortening in a large mixing bowl.
- Cool to lukewarm.
- Stir in 2 cups of flour.
- Mix well.
- Add yeast mixture.
- Mix well.
- Add enough of the remaining flour to make a moderately stiff dough. Turn out on floured surface and knead until smooth (about 10 minutes).
- Shape in a ball.
- Place in a greased bowl, turning once to grease surface of dough.
- Cover with a towel and let rise in a warm place until double in size (about 1 1/4 hours).
- Punch down. Shape into desired dinner rolls or make 2 loaves.
