- 2 Tbsp. bacon drippings or oil
- 1/4 c. brown sugar
- 1/4 c. vinegar
- 1/4 c. water
- 1 1/4 tsp. salt
- 1/2 - 1 tsp. caraway seeds
- dash pepper
- 4 c. shredded red cabbage
- 2 c. cubed, unpeeled apples
- 2 - 3 slices bacon, cooked and crumbled
Method
- Heat brown sugar, vinegar, water, salt, pepper and caraway seeds in bacon drippings.
- Add cabbage and apples stirring to coat.
- Add crumbled bacon.
- Cover and cook over medium low heat, stirring occasionally.
- For crisper cabbage, cook 15 minutes.
- For tender cabbage cook 30 minutes.
