Ingredients

  • 2 Tbsp. bacon drippings or oil
  • 1/4 c. brown sugar
  • 1/4 c. vinegar
  • 1/4 c. water
  • 1 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 - 1 tsp. caraway seeds
  • dash pepper
  • 4 c. shredded red cabbage
  • 2 c. cubed, unpeeled apples
  • 2 - 3 slices bacon, cooked and crumbled

Method

  • Heat brown sugar, vinegar, water, salt, pepper and caraway seeds in bacon drippings.
  • Add cabbage and apples stirring to coat.
  • Add crumbled bacon.
  • Cover and cook over medium low heat, stirring occasionally.
  • For crisper cabbage, cook 15 minutes.
  • For tender cabbage cook 30 minutes.
