Ingredients

  • 1 c. shortening or oleo
  • 1/2 c. sugar
  • 2 Tbsp. orange juice
  • 2 3/4 c. flour
  • 1/4 tsp. soda
  • 1/2 c. brown sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 Tbsp. grated orange rind
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 c. finely chopped pecans

Method

  • Cream shortening and add sugars gradually, beating constantly. Add egg and beat well.
  • Stir in orange juice and rind.
  • Sift flour, soda and salt together.
  • Add to creamed mixture.
  • Blend well.
  • Stir in nuts.
  • Form into four rolls, wrap in waxed paper or plastic wrap and store in refrigerator until ready to use.
  • If carefully wrapped, rolls will keep for 3 to 4 weeks.
  • Cut in 1/8-inch slices and place on ungreased cookie sheet.
  • Bake at 375° for 8 to 12 minutes.
  • Makes 5 to 6 dozen.
