Ingredients
- 1 c. shortening or oleo
- 1/2 c. sugar
- 2 Tbsp. orange juice
- 2 3/4 c. flour
- 1/4 tsp. soda
- 1/2 c. brown sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 Tbsp. grated orange rind
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- 1/2 c. finely chopped pecans
Method
- Cream shortening and add sugars gradually, beating constantly. Add egg and beat well.
- Stir in orange juice and rind.
- Sift flour, soda and salt together.
- Add to creamed mixture.
- Blend well.
- Stir in nuts.
- Form into four rolls, wrap in waxed paper or plastic wrap and store in refrigerator until ready to use.
- If carefully wrapped, rolls will keep for 3 to 4 weeks.
- Cut in 1/8-inch slices and place on ungreased cookie sheet.
- Bake at 375° for 8 to 12 minutes.
- Makes 5 to 6 dozen.
