Ingredients

  • 1 very large onion
  • 3 tbsp butter
  • 6 beef bouillon cubes dissolved in 6 cups of hot water
  • fresh ground pepper
  • dash of sherry (optional)
  • French or Italian Bread
  • Melting Cheese of your choice

Method

  • Brown sliced onion in the butter until dark brown (caramel colored).
  • Add fresh pepper to taste.
  • Add beef bouillon.
  • Simmer 1/2 hour, add dash of sherry if you would like.
  • Toast bread slices dark - put one on each serving, add cheese and broil until cheese browns.
