Ingredients

  • 3/4 c. shortening
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 3 Tbsp. milk
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 1/2 c. dates or raisins, cut up
  • 2 c. flour
  • 1/4 tsp. baking powder
  • 3/4 tsp. soda
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 2 c. oatmeal (rolled or quick)

Method

  • Cream shortening with sugar.
  • Add eggs, milk and vanilla; mix well.
  • Sift dry ingredients and stir into creamed mixture.
  • Blend last items in and chill if desired.
  • Drop or form into balls size of walnut.
  • Place on greased baking sheets.
  • Flatten to 1/4 inch thick.
  • Bake about 10 to 12 minutes in 375° oven.
  • Makes 4 dozen.
