Ingredients

  • 1 c. melted shortening
  • 1 c. molasses
  • 1 c. brown sugar
  • 3 c. flour
  • 2 tsp. cinnamon
  • 2 tsp. ginger
  • 2 tsp. soda
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1 1/3 c. boiling water
  • 2 eggs, beaten

Method

  • Mix shortening, molasses and brown sugar.
  • Add sifted dry ingredients; mix well and stir in boiling water.
  • Fold in beaten eggs.
  • Pour into greased pan.
  • Bake at 375° for 40 to 45 minutes. Serve with whipped cream, ice cream or hot applesauce flavored with cinnamon.
