Ingredients

  • 3/4 c. soft shortening
  • 1 c. granulated sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 c. light corn syrup or 1/8 c. corn syrup and 1/8 c. molasses
  • 2 (1 oz.) sq. Baker's chocolate, melted or 6 Tbsp. cocoa
  • 1 3/4 c. sifted flour
  • 2 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/4 c. granulated sugar (to roll cookies in)

Method

  • Cream together shortening, sugar and egg.
  • Stir in syrup and chocolate.
  • Sift flour, soda, salt and cinnamon into creamed mixture.
  • Shape dough into balls the size of walnuts and roll in sugar.
  • Place balls on ungreased baking sheet, 3 inches apart. Bake at 350° for 12 to 15 minutes.
  • Makes about 3 dozen cookies.
