Ingredients

  • 1 c. soft bread crumbs
  • 2/3 c. milk
  • 1 lb. ground beef
  • 1 egg, well beaten
  • 1 1/2 tsp. chopped onion
  • 1/4 tsp. mace
  • 1/8 tsp. allspice
  • 2 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 tsp. pepper
  • 2 Tbsp. butter or margarine
  • 2 Tbsp. flour
  • 1 can cream of celery soup
  • 1 c. white wine
  • 1/2 c. evaporated milk
  • 2 tsp. chopped parsley

Method

  • Soak bread crumbs in milk 5 to 10 minutes in a bowl.
  • Add beef, egg, onion, spices and 1 1/2 teaspoons salt.
  • Shape into balls the size of a walnut.
  • Heat butter in large pan and brown meat on all sides.
  • Add flour to drippings and stir.
  • Add soup, wine, evaporated milk and remaining 1 teaspoon salt.
