Ingredients

  • 1/2 c. butter
  • 1/4 c. sugar
  • 2 unbeaten eggs
  • 1 c. maple syrup
  • 2 1/2 c. sifted flour
  • 2 tsp. double-acting baking powder
  • 3/4 tsp. soda
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 c. hot water

Method

  • Cream the butter.
  • Gradually add sugar. Stir well. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each.
  • Blend in maple syrup gradually. Sift dry ingredients. Add hot water alternately with dry ingredients to creamed mixture, beginning and ending with dry ingredients (with electric mixer, use low speed).
  • Pour into an oblong pan which has been well-greased and floured or two 8-inch round layer pans. Bake at 350° for 30 to 35 minutes. Cool and frost.
