Ingredients

  • 1/2 cups Shortening
  • 1-1/2 cup Sugar
  • 3 whole Eggs
  • 2 teaspoons Vanilla
  • 3 cups Flour
  • 2/3 cups Cocoa Powder
  • 1-1/2 teaspoon Baking Soda
  • 1-1/2 teaspoon Baking Powder
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 teaspoon Ground Cloves
  • 1 teaspoon Allspice
  • 1 teaspoon Cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoons Nutmeg
  • 1/2 cups Milk, Approximately
  • 1/2 cups Chocolate Chips
  • 1/2 cups Chopped Walnuts
  • 1/2 cups Raisins

Method

  • Cream shortening and sugar in a large bowl, then add eggs and vanilla.
  • Stir together dry ingredients in a separate bowl: flour, cocoa powder, baking soda and baking powder, salt and spices.
  • Mix dry ingredients into the creamed mixture, alternating with the milk until it's a nice thick cookie batter consistency. Stir in the chocolate chips, walnuts and raisins. Ultimately, I end up sticking my hands in the dough to finish the mixing.
  • Roll into balls and then flatten them on cookie sheets. Bake in a 350F oven for 10 minutes. Cool completely. Makes 4 dozen cookies.
  • If you wish to glaze these, you can use a simple powdered sugar and milk glaze.
