- 1/2 cups Shortening
- 1-1/2 cup Sugar
- 3 whole Eggs
- 2 teaspoons Vanilla
- 3 cups Flour
- 2/3 cups Cocoa Powder
- 1-1/2 teaspoon Baking Soda
- 1-1/2 teaspoon Baking Powder
- 1 teaspoon Salt
- 1 teaspoon Ground Cloves
- 1 teaspoon Allspice
- 1 teaspoon Cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoons Nutmeg
- 1/2 cups Milk, Approximately
- 1/2 cups Chocolate Chips
- 1/2 cups Chopped Walnuts
- 1/2 cups Raisins
Method
- Cream shortening and sugar in a large bowl, then add eggs and vanilla.
- Stir together dry ingredients in a separate bowl: flour, cocoa powder, baking soda and baking powder, salt and spices.
- Mix dry ingredients into the creamed mixture, alternating with the milk until it's a nice thick cookie batter consistency. Stir in the chocolate chips, walnuts and raisins. Ultimately, I end up sticking my hands in the dough to finish the mixing.
- Roll into balls and then flatten them on cookie sheets. Bake in a 350F oven for 10 minutes. Cool completely. Makes 4 dozen cookies.
- If you wish to glaze these, you can use a simple powdered sugar and milk glaze.
